The first phase of the masters test is over, now we just need to finish it.
I wish the brick imprint on my chest was permanent, I would like a daily reminder of the challenges we faced on March 6th 2010. It was a day that I never saw coming when I first walked in to Mr. John's class all those years ago. To be able to test for Master with the man that taught me everything I know was an honor that few get to experience.
After years of training and many months of rigorous practice the evening started surprisingly well, this was one of the few times I didn't test on the hottest day of the year. Mr. John was as sharp as can be and buzzed though all his technique, making the test go by so much more quickly. I was a nervous as I expected to be and it tripped my up at times but I persevered. We had a fair amount of technique, four black belt patterns, 100 movement and a few "special" challenges. Everyone thinks we're kidding when we talk about laying on a bed of broken glass while someone breaks two bricks on our chest with a sledge hammer...it's no joke. We both have a four board break left and one "special" challenge left before we get another stripe but we're very close.

The only way to fail a Tae Kwon Do test is to quit! If it take days, weeks, months or years, you WILL pass if you keep trying. Ms. Sue proved that and defined perseverance when she broke her last boards to earn her third stripe on Sunday march 21. She has been third dan in our hearts and minds for a long time but she finally gets to stand in that line.
I've said it at least 100 times and this time I had to prove it, the only way to fail a Tae Kwon Do test is to quit! If it take days, weeks, months or years, you WILL pass if you keep trying. Master John and I FINISHED our test at Color Belt Camp on Saturday June 12, 2010. I will have some pictures soon.
ANNOUNCING
Ms. Bryn and Mr. Joel tied the knot on Saturday March 13th. We had the privilege of attending the reception at the W hotel in the beautiful Foshay Tower in downtown Minneapolis. The Foshay was built in 1929 as a wonderful example of art deco style. The bride and groom requested the guests dress in "black and white" attire that reflected the feel of the times. I even grew an Errol Flynn mustache for the occasion. It was a lovely evening with many good friends.
